After the violent Indo-China face-off at Ladakh’s Galwan Valley, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) announced a new campaign ‘Bharatiya Saaman-Hamara Abhiman’ to boycott Chinese products from India. Amid the growing tension between the two nations, on 18 June CIAT has issued an open letter asking Bollywood celebrities to join hands with the organisation in their campaign by boycotting endorsements of Chinese brands.

Addressed to people from the acting and sports fraternity, the letter highlighted some of the popular names in the Bollywood industry, such as Aamir Khan, Sara Ali Khan, Virat Kohli, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Ranveer Singh, Salman Khan, Ayushman Khurana and many others who had previously promoted Chinese brands.

According to CAIT, this step can effectively reduce the rate of imports from China and will also help to encourage Indian brands to grow by December 2021.

The letter also praises a few names of the B-town celebrities including Sonu Sood, Amitabh Bachchan, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Akshay Kumar, and Madhuri Dixit Nene for their social works and initiatives.

Earlier on Wednesday, many Bollywood stars such as Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan, Kangana Ranaut, Anushka Sharma, Taapsee Pannu and others were spotted on social media paying tribute to the 20 martyred soldiers who were killed during the Indo-China clash in Ladakh.
