Veteran filmmaker Basu Chatterjee, who is known for his contribution to cinema with works like ‘Chitchor’, ‘Baton Baton Mein’, ‘Khatta Meetha’ and many others passed away on Thursday due to age-related health issues.

The news of Chatterjee ‘s demise was shared by Indian Film & TV Directors’ Association president Ashoke Pandit as he took to social media and wrote, “I am extremely grieved to inform you all the demise of Legendary Filmmaker Basu Chatterjee ji . His last rites will be performed today at Santacruz cremation at 2 pm. It’s a great loss to the industry. Will miss you Sir. #RIPBasuChaterjee.”

Chatterjee was also known for his work as a screenplay writer as well. His last rites took place on Thursday afternoon itself at the Santacruz Crematorium. Even PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter to pay his last tribute to the filmmaker. He wrote, “Sad to hear of the demise of Shri Basu Chatterjee. His works are brilliant and sensitive. It touched people’s hearts and represented the simple and complex emotions, as well as struggles of people. Condolences to his family and innumerable fans. Om Shanti.”
